Time to pick my sessions!

I love this part of conference prep...picking out the sessions!

Want to know another great thing about an online conferences? If a session conflicts with your schedule, you can always go back to the session you've missed later!  But wait there's more! Not only is travel not required, but taking days off from work is not required!

OK...back to planning my sessions...

You can find the full Day 1 schedule here.

Day 1 - Here are the early classes I'm doing.
Decisions...decisions...

  • Fluid Power and Prana Vinyasa with Shiva Rae - 9AM Interview/9:30 Class
    • I've attended one of Shiva Rae's classes years ago and her energy and attitude are refreshing.
  • The Power of Mindfulness for Everyday Living with Congressman, Tim Ryan - Noon Interview
    • I'll listen in on this during lunch

The later afternoon classes are tough.  There are three I really want to watch, but I can't commit to them all.  A couple will have to wait.  But which one(s) should I watch live?  I guess it will all depend on my schedule that day.

  • The Sequencing of Emotions with Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman
    • I've spent many hours on my mat with a Rodney Yee video.  It'll be great to virtually practice along with him.
  • Love is Stronger than Fear with Desiree Rumbaugh
    • She's originally from Arizona.  My friend took her session at a conference while I opted for a different class. My friend didn't stop talking about it, so I don't want to miss out on this one.
  • Overcoming Self Sabotage: 3 Steps to Rock the Life You Deserve with Sadie Nardini
    • What can I say? The title alone is intriguing

Just two more days until the online conference starts.  Have you registered yet?

Yoga Is...

Well, I did it! I signed up for the Yoga Is Online Conference from April 30 - May 3rd, 2015.  My first ever online conference! So, yes since it's my first online conference I have the same questions as you -  What is it and how does it work?

Reading the Yoga Is website explains it simply:

"Students will watch, listen & learn from more than 60 half-hour videos from some of the most established teachers in their genre.  Over the four days, seven to eight videos will be offered per day.  The videos will contain two main sections; an interview with the teacher then an immediate follow up class that will relate to the content of the interview"

The full online conference will also be available to the students after the conference is over.

So, for $39 I get all this exclusive content from some pretty amazing teachers.

I've been to a few yoga conferences in the past and believe me $39 is a steal! In a regular conference, you not only have to pay the registration fee, but unless it's close to home, you'll have pay for travel and hotel accommodations as well.

Just a few of us taking a beach break from a Yoga Conference in San Diego, CA
Not only is the price right, but I love that instead of having to travel to see these amazing teachers, they have to travel through the interwebs and come into my humble abode.  For the next few days prior to the conference, I will be reviewing the conference schedule to pick out the classes I want to take.  I love this part of conference prep!

Follow along with me on my blog, twitter, instagram for before, during and after discussion of this journey.  Will you be attending the conference with me? Feel free to comment and tweet along with me #YogaIs

50 before 50

I got this idea after hearing about a lady who blogged about her 49 before 50 list when she turned 49.  I feel I've got it a little easier since I've got 5 whole years before I need to complete my list.  She only has one year.

To pass the time during our commute to and from the lake last weekend, I decided to start on my 50:

1.  Skydive
2.  Hike the Grand Canyon
3.  Swim with Manta Rays
4.  Wake Surf
5.  Raft the Colorado River
6.  Zorb Down a hill
7.  Shoot a gun
8.  Learn how to water color - Brian says, didn't you learn that in 2nd grade?
9.  Watch a total eclipse - Is there one in the next 5 years?
10.  Golf Troon
11.  Have a past life reading
12.  Hike the Camino Del Inca
13.  Take my kids to see the Blue Angels
14.  Take a sailing class
15.  Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga class - If you know me, and how much I yoga, it's hard to believe I haven't done this yet.
16.  Learn how to drive a motorcycle
17.  Mechanical Bull Ride
18.  Salt River Tubing
19.

You'll notice that my list doesn't include too many exotic locations except for maybe #12 in Peru.  I didn't want to feel obligated to travel somewhere to check off something from my list.  I wish I had the money to have that luxury.  Believe me, this list would be much easier to write if money were no object.

The beauty about making this list is that I can actually go through my ideas and say "No, I did that already....that, too...check!" Yes, I can confidently say that I've done a lot in my 45 years even without a list to check off.  That makes being 45 pretty satisfying.

Feel free to chime in with any ideas!

Next stop, New Orleans, Baby!

I just updated my "Next Trip" Countdown ticker on my blog.  And yes, you read that right.  I'm headed to New Orleans!! Squeeeeeeeeeeal!!

First time there for me.  I'm so excited, that I even started reading an Anne Rice novel! hahah! Interview with a Vampire was unavailable at the time at the library as an ebook, so I chose the The Vampire, Lestat.  The reason I never read these novels when they were the popular thing to do, is because I'm easily scared and maybe a little superstitious.  OK, a lot superstitious.  But I'm already a quarter into the book and no bad dreams yet!  I guess it helps that it's written from the monster's point of view and not the preys.

I'm only going to be in New Orleans for less than 48 hours, so I'm going to need to plan this well to get the most out of my trip.  Bar hopping in the French Quarter is a must.  We arrive at 8pm Saturday night, so it's straight to Bourbon Street.  I'll have all day Sunday, so I think I'll be doing a walking tour of the City or Cemetaries, then maybe visit a fortune teller or medium.  I still have a few days to do my research and planning, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

No Regrets

It's a beautiful President's Day Weekend in the Valley of the Sun.  Brian and I are off to Lake Pleasant to visit our boat, No Regrets.  I'm actually going to scrape off the "Four Winns" brand sticker and finally put her name on today.  You know it's unlucky to have a boat with now name and we've had her since July last year.

The lake has been quiet and calm lately, so today should be the perfect day for me to learn how to drive the boat.  Sounds like fun, right? Well, actually, I'm pretty nervous.  The last time I tried driving the boat, I was freaking out.  Every time I would hit a wake, I'd slow the boat down suddenly.  And if there was a boat within a half a mile, I'd freak and wonder, which way is that boat going? Am I in his way. Is he in my way? What should I do?!!!

Ack!

Well, I know if I were younger, I'd have no fear of this. I'd welcome it with open arms.  I was eager to learn and try anything new and exciting.  I learned how to drive stick shift just for that reason.  I enjoyed the thrill of being on a San Francisco hill and trying to get it smoothly into gear from a dead stop.  I need to channel that adventurous, thrill-seeking teen inside.

No Regrets is the name of our boat and that's how we need to live our lives.  How can I call myself a decent boat owner if I can't even drive her?

Wish me luck!

The World Is Just Outside Your Door

There's a book out called "1000 Places to Visit Before You Die".  I saw it at the Half Price Bookstore the other day and quickly flipped open to a random page.  Apparently, I'm supposed to visit Geirangerfjord in Norway.  I remember rolling my eyes and thinking. "There is no way I'll ever make it there in my lifetime!" Needless to say I didn't buy the book.  It would just frustrate me.  I would either have to live a very long time or die disappointed.

There are so many people that just can't do it.  They don't have the money or the means (which usually means money) or the courage to travel to places like Kenya or Mongolia.  I'm sure if we stayed in our country we can find a thousand places to see.  I'm sure we'd have a pretty sizable list of places to see just in our state!

When I left San Francisco, I kept thinking of the places I never visited.  In my 30 years there, I have only been to Alcatraz once.  I've never been to Angel Island, the island where many of the Chinese immigrants were held in barracks until they could prove they had family in the U.S.  It was like the Ellis Island of the west.  I'd like to see the poems that these immigrants etched on the walls of the barracks as they waited months, sometimes years.  I'd also like to hike Mount Tamalpais in the Marin Headlands, and not to mention all those Napa and Sonoma wineries I never had a chance to visit! It's a shame!

That's why when I moved here to Arizona, I wanted to explore the state like a tourist.  I wanted to take advantage of the state while I'm here.  Who knows how long I'll stay and I don't want to regret missing out on anything.  I've met several native Arizonans that have never been to the Grand Canyon or Sedona.  I'm sure the Canyon will "always be there".  But the truth is, we won't.  That's why I'd like to urge you to get out and see what else is around you.  Maybe you'll be able to make a list of the 1000 places you've already visited here in Arizona.

One such place I can cross off my list is Lake Powell and the city of Page, Arizona - just on the North Eastern border near Utah.  In fact, we rented a boat and our cell phone time kept switching between Arizona and Utah time depending on which tower it was using.  The lake itself is huge.  One of the largest man-made lakes in the Country.  It boasts more shoreline than the entire West Coast of the US.  The landscape is amazing with monuments and mesas that seem to just rise high above the lake level.  You can find yourself in a finger of the lake with smooth, high canyon walls on both sides.  The landscape is definitely unique and almost out of this world,  Apparently, Hollywood thought so, too, since they used this area in The Planet of The Apes movie.

Not too far from the Lake, you'll find Antelope Canyon which is a slot canyon.  Slot canyons are formed by the wear and erosion of water rushing through a rock.  Because of this, a slot canyon can be very narrow and the red sandstone walls swirl and curve like water flowing.  This makes many photographers flock to the canyon daily.  There are guided tours every day.  Since it is on Navajo land, you're required to take their guides.  The tours leave frequently, however there are one or two tours a day strictly for photographers. Those tours are reserved for the time of day when the sun shines directly into the canyon slots which make for some pretty amazing pictures.  i didn't happen to go at that time, but anytime of day, you're sure to capture some pretty cool pics.

Another cool place to check out in Arizona is the Tonto Natural Bridge.  It's only 90 minutes from Phoenix, so it's a simple day trip.  The bridge is believed to be the largest natural travertine bridge in the world.  It's ceiling is 183 ft high and the tunnel is 400 feet long and 150 feet at it's widest point.  You can stand atop the bridge or it's about 1/2 mile down the to get under the bridge to admire the size of it.  There are some natural springs that flow through the land there so once your under the bridge water from the bridge above you is actually raining down on you.  This is a great way to cool off after your short hike on a hot Arizona summer day.

I found this nice list of ideas here in http://www.placestoseeinarizona.com.  I've done some editing, removed any duplicates and added my own ideas here.  So, now it's a list of 85 - still a long way to go to get to 1,000, but it's a start.  I've already done 30 from the list.

I hope this gives you some motivation to explore this amazing state we live in.  Or your own state.  You don't need to travel thousands of miles to see the world.  The world is just outside your door.  Go ahead and create your list, but don't forget the most important thing:  Get out there and start crossing things off!

Perspective

Here's "The Happiest Kid" meme making it around the interwebs today.  Poor "Not Happy At All" kid.  I'm sure she's a very happy child running around, having fun, making faces, using rocks as cameras and bananas as phones.

But it does give us some perspective.  We have so many "things"!  But do thiese "things" make us happy?

I actually prefer this series of pics below.  They really give you a different perspective on our so-called "problems" and makes us realize all the "things" we take for granted.

This reminds me with this funny video about our "First World Problems".

Here's a bridge, Now Get Over It!

Have a great day everyone!  Be happy with every "thing"!

YOGA ROCKS!

In just 9 days, I will be embarking on my second mother/daughter yoga trip.  This time we're headed to San Francisco for the Yoga Journal Yoga Conference held at the Embarcadero Hyatt.  It'll nice to be "home".

I won't be taking back-to-back yoga classes like I did at the conference in San Diego last June.  This time I'm going to take it easy and take one class on Saturday and another on Sunday morning.  The rest of the time I will be soaking up every bit of San Francisco that I can.

But before I hit the streets of San Francisco, I'll be taking an 8 AM class on both Saturday and Sunday morning.  On Sunday, I'll be taking a class with Baron Baptiste, "Foundations in Actions".  A class that works on improving your practice by focusing on the foundation of each pose.  Baron introduced his own style of Power Yoga in the early 90s.  In the mid 90's he was part of the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff as the "Peak Performance Specialist."  I guess it's the tough football way to say "Yoga Instructor."

On Sunday morning the class is "Yoga Rocks" with Eric Paskal founder of Yoga Shelter with 5 studios in Michigan and one in Studio City, CA.  I've taken Eric's class at the San Diego conference and loved it! That's me in his class last June.  I'm the one behind the girl in the blue and yes, probably the only one not doing the full expression of Warrior One. Yep, caught taking a mini-break. Doh!

The music was loud and fun.  His teaching style was inspirational, motivating and moving.  He broke out the guitar at the end of class and we had a group sing-along with closed eyes repeating "Let my love open the door."  What a great class.  It'll be worth waking up extra early Sunday morning to catch the BART train to take his class.

Needless to say, I am totally looking forward to my Yoga weekend in San Francisco.

Santosha

It should've been a sign, the first day of the year and my scale breaks.  Was the universe trying to tell me that in 2013, I shouldn't let the scale be a measurement of my happiness.  Every day of 2012, I stepped faithfully on that scale each morning and although some days I would be elated at the results, more often than not I felt more deflated.  That's right, deflated and bloated at the same time.

And it is this dichotomy between thought and action that is making me write today.  After my yoga teacher last week spoke about a sanskrit word "santosha", meaning contentment, I know I should be content with who I am today, and that includes my weight.  Yet, after my scale broke yesterday, what did I go and do during my lunch break? I headed out to Walmart and bought a new scale.  The body wasn't even cold yet!

It was impulsive, actually.  I did intend to just throw away my scale and never replace it. Adios! Au Revoir! Good Riddance! But on my break, as I meandered the aisles at Walmart to pick up a few things, I walked by the aisle of scales. Must...not...go!! But the force was strong with this one.  Not only did I pick up a scale that measured in 0.2 lb increments (my other one only measured by the half pound), but I got the fancy one that measured hydration and body fat.  I'm a sick, sick person.

Santosha...Contentment...Happiness.  2013 is my year of santosha.  I can sit and wallow in the sad fact that I gave in to that urge of replacing my scale.  Or I can be happy and content with my weight, return the scale tomorrow and get my $35 back.  Then I can spend that money on some healthy food or new yoga shorts.  Won't that make me happy? Or  I can just be content that I've got a shiny new scale. Yes, that's what I'll do! Now that's my idea of santosha!

Yoga Streaking!!

It's Day 4 of my self-imposed yoga streak challenge.  How many days can I go without missing a day of yoga.  It takes 21 days to make a habit. Motivation gets you started, but habits keep you going.  Hopefully, I can keep this going...at least until I stop.  Isn't that usually how it is?

So today, I woke up bright and early at 4:50 AM.  OK, it wasn't so bright at that time, but dayum it was early!

I got to class in time and I have to thank "strategic conservation", something I learned about from reading this article.

Basically, plan ahead and you won't waste your energy running around in the morning trying to get your act together.  I plan to practice strategic conservation a lot more in 2013.  Last night, I made sure I packed my gym bag, lunch and work computer.  I even filled up and chilled my water bottle the night before.  This morning, the only thing I forgot to include in the gym bag was a towel and my shower flip flops and sinceI wasn't running around frantically at 5:15 AM to pack, I actually had room in my mind to think about anything I may have forgotten.  I had plenty of time to throw those last minute items in my bag and get to yoga calm and ready for the challenge.

Goodbye 2012!

Goodbye 2012!

We welcomed you at the Montelucia Resort and had no idea what you had in store. One year later we've got our oldest son, Hunter in Navy Nuclear Power Training School, Trenton in 4th Grade doing great in flag Football and our daughter, Spencer celebrated an amazing Sweet 16 birthday.

2012 took us to Miami, The Grand Caymans, San Diego, Chicago, Rocky Point, Mexico, Boston and Cape Cod

We spent the summer hanging out on our new boat "No Regrets" and ended the year having my family celebrate Christmas with us here in Arizona!

We have had a blessed 2012 and we're truly grateful.  We are looking forward to an amazing 2013.

Get a Little Mud on the Tires

My husband never ceases to amaze, or surprise me.  Last Friday, when I got home, he and the kids met me in the garage as I drove slowly in.  I'm not sure what I was so preoccupied with when I got out of the car.  We were headed out to the boat that night and maybe I wanted to make sure we got everything packed.  I didn't realize that the kids and Brian were all pointing to something in front of my car.

It was a shiny new Diamondback Mountain Bike!! With a note saying "In case you got bored with your BMW, here's a new set of wheels for you!" A Mountain bike?? I never even mentioned to Brian that I wanted a bike.  I was content in just riding around my daughter's beach cruiser if I needed to tag along on Brian and Trenton's rides.  This one was really nice, and even had head and tail lights for those late night trips to the Yogurt Bar.

Brian said he wanted to go biking on Sunday up in Flagstaff.  This was all so new to me. Not mountain biking.  I used to have my own bike, but it was old, broken and we got rid of it.  We would bike the trails in Briones and Mount Diablo when we lived in the East Bay.  I never though about biking here because it's always too hot and I really got into running.  What was new to me was that we were going out (yet again) on Sunday.

I thought Sunday was finally going to be my day of rest.  After 5 days in Mexico, partying at the lake for the 4th of July followed by 2 days of work, we would be boating on Saturday and then finally, blissfully on Sunday I would be able to finally catch up with all the house cleaning and laundry.  Hmm...I don't think the words "blissfully", "house cleaning" and "laundry" were ever used together in a sentence before today.  Which reminds me, last week also included a girls night out on Thursday at a BYOB art studio painting masterpieces and drinking Chardonnay.

But it looks like we would be mountain biking with my new bike on Sunday.

Sunday morning, we finally got on the road at 10:00.  Flagstaff is a little over 2 hours away, but it could be worlds away.  The landscape is completely different.  The Sonoran saguaros give way to the beginning of the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the continent.  You gain over 5700 feet in elevation and by the time arrived, the temperature had cooled from a toasty 105 to a bearable and beautiful 82.  Then the ominous clouds rolled in and it began pouring, sending the temperature plunging to the low 50s by the time we got to town.

Brian researched the bike trails and found the Cambell Mesa Loops would be perfect for a family ride.  The incline/decline were manageable for my 8 year old son and the single track wasn't too technical for my daughter and I who needed a refresher on changing gears.  But by the time we got to the trailhead, it was pouring! I was disappointed and even suggested we drive down to Sedona and into 90+ degrees for a dry trail, but my husband said to wait 15 minutes.

Amazingly enough, as is usually the case with my husband's predictions, the rain stopped and we were treated to a great ride through the forest.  The trail was empty, thanks to the rain for deterring any other bikers and hikers.  The ground was not very muddy at all and the temperature was perfect!

I love my new mountain bike!

We finished off the day with some refreshments and appetizers at the Lumberyard's beer garden watching the trains go by with the Snowbowl mountain peak in the distance.

Slacker

Crap! I've done the most travelling this year and I haven't written one word! Well, I have one word for you now...LAME!

I've been travelling so much that by the end of this month, I'll be completely out of vacation days here at work. Boo!

Actually, after Hawaii last November, I had to sit back while my vacation days accumulated. So by May, I was able to do more travelling. Here's what my schedule was like the past several weeks.

May

  • 1 night in Ft. Lauderdale, FL
  • 1 night in South Beach, FL
  • 5 nights in the Grand Caymans

June

  • 4 nights in Rocky Point, Mexico
July

  • Day trip to Flagstaff, AZ
  • 2 nights in San Diego, CA
  • 3 nights in Massachusetts

This is the rental we picked up in Florida. It was a pretty nice ride! We got such a great deal from a new Rental Car Company, SixT. They're huge in Europe, but they are just starting out in the US. So, they've got some pretty good deals on their cars.

This Friday, I'll be cruising in a red convertible Audi A4 from Phoenix to San Diego. ROAD TRIP! I'm spending 3 days in San Diego doing some work exchange for Yoga Journal's Yoga Conference I've signed up to take a class with one of my favorite yoginis, Sean Corn. I'll also be taking a Stand-Up Paddle Board yoga class which should prove to be wet and fun.

This past weekend, on our boat (OMG! I forgot to write that we got a boat!! I guess I'll blog about that later.), Trenton and I tried out some yoga poses on the inflatable tube we tow around. So, if Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga is anything like that, I am going to get VERY wet.

OK. I'm off to a specialty swim suit store to look for a suit for my daughter that's sold out pretty much everywhere. Sigh. It's what mom's do...

Lunch at the Stadium

Ahhh...I love this time of year. Spring Training is in the air!

I took an early and extended lunch today to take in some batting practice at Scottsdale Stadium. Brown bagged it and sat in the bleachers right behind the first base dug out. The players practice from 10-noon each day. How do I get a job like that?

Anyway, Bochy was out watching the catchers throw a few, then they set up for batting practice. Buster Posey was out most of last season so it was great to see him out there, even if he had a huge brace on his ankle. He was hittin' 'em pretty well, too! It was fun to watch the kids in the far left field stands scrambling after any of his foul balls. Whiteside and Stewart were out there, too.

Unfortunately, my ham n' swiss and lunch hour were up before I knew it and I had to head back to the office. But what a nice day to get out...mid 70's with sunny, beautiful skies. Also, of all days for me to forget my phone! So, with no pictures and no foursquare check in, did I even go? Ha! I don't need the digital proof. Spring training isn't in the bits and bytes of the internet and location based apps...it's in the air!!

Commuter Flight

We flew Go Mokulele to travel back and forth to Maui from Oahu.  It's a small commuter airlines using small planes and charging small prices.  But watch out! They get you on baggage fees!

We can't stand baggage fees and make sure we travel with carry ons only no matter where we go.  But this airlines can be strict.  They even make you try to fit your luggage into the little empty box that is their size max...22x9x14.  I'm guessing the one inch thick wood making up the box makes that size requirement even smaller because our "carry ons" didn't pass.  We ended up paying $60 in fees to get to Maui.

Now, on our way back to Oahu, I made sure my husband was present when we checked in our bags.  He made those bags fit the box!

Makena Landing

We had no reservations, but we had a plan.  He down to Makena Landing and find someone to rent us a couple kayaks.  We checked the web and found only places that would provide you kayak tours.  But that's not the way we roll, or row, in this case.  We'll skip the guided tour and blaze our own trail.  Nothing against the knowledgeable guide and the interesting facts one can learn from them.  We like to have a little more freedom and go on our own pace.

So, 7 am and we're at Makena landing.  There were already a couple small tour groups either heading out or doing their pre-ride talk.  BT was able to secure us two two person kayaks for $50 cash.  Normally, a guided kayak tour is $70 for adults and $40 kids, saving us over $200.  We were in our wet suits, life jackets and water shoes with our snorkel gear bag strapped to the kayaks even before another tour guide had finished talking to his group about how to kayak.

We kayaked north for a mile then dropped near a point to snorkel.  The water was clear with a beautiful variety of coral.  My son Trenton spotted a white spotted eel within 5 minutes of being in the water.  It had to be over 3 feet long.  On the kayak back we swam with
turtles.

I just asked my eight year old "How far was that turtle from your face? Close enough for you to touch?"

He replied, "No! That's illegal!"

But it's true, the turtle was that close!

As we rowed to shore we thought we hang out and catch a wave into shore.  We were right on top of a wave riding it in when our kayak somehow turned to the side and turned over!! We fell right into the sandy surf with my daughter freaking out and me laughing the whole time.  Of course the husband and son rode the wave all the way into shore perfectly.

Heading to Turtle Town...

We're up early on our last day in Maui.  We are yet to see any turtles, so hopefully this trip to Turtle Town will check that off the list. We did see one in Oah'u, but I attribute that to beginner's luck.

Don't mind my hair. This humidity and salt water is making me look more like a native than evah, brah!

We're going to try to rent a kayak on our own to avoid the premium tour fees they're charging.  Wish us luck.

Trying Something New

When trying new things it can either be something you always wanted to do or something you’ve heard of and although it sounds interesting, it’s not necessarily on your bucket list, but you’ll do it anyway. Like the Friday before Halloween, I finally went to a Murder Mystery Dinner. I've always thought about doing this, but it's something I would not have regretted missing. I’m not going to be sitting on my death bed one day saying “Dang! I wish I had done that Murder Mystery Dinner Theater”. I would most likely be regretting that one time I was in London when I was 28 and had the chance to head out to Amsterdam for a few days, but didn’t go. Doh!

Anyway, the murder mystery was fun. Our neighborhood community association organized it using Murder Ink Productions. I got to play the part of the Homecoming Queen during Prickly Pear High School’s 1968 Class Reunion. I won’t tell you if I murdered my old classmate-turned famous actress, but she did ruin my infomercial career. Here's a grainy old pic of the Homecoming Queen Sasha Saccharin herself!

So, for this week’s “new thing” I will be signing up for a Yin Gong Meditation class. From what little I know about it, this class consists of Yin Yoga while you are bathed in the sounds of the gong. Both of which I’ve never done before, so hey, two for the price of one! Yin yoga poses are held for up to a minute and a half and are supposed to target more than just your muscles. It works the deeper connective tissue like bones, ligaments and joints. Ha! When was the last time you put bones and ligaments on your workout schedule?

“Hmmm…Monday is Leg day…then Abs day…oh look, bones, ligaments and joints day! I think I have the perfect playlist on my ipod! There’s the Animaniac’s Bone Song (see video below), Smoke Two Joints, Sublime’s version and hmmm..don’t know any ligament songs.”

Actually, the playlist for this specific work out is a gong. There will be someone in class along with the yoga teacher that will play the gong. A gong bath is sound therapy to promote relaxation. The bath is supposed to clear your nerve endings. I guess our nerve endings, like battery terminals in a car can get corroded and need a good dip in baking soda and water every now and then. I wonder if that’s why I get muscle twitches and Charlie horses every now and then?

I’m really looking forward to this class. It is offered by Floo-id Yoga in North Scottsdale and more information and sign ups can be found on their website . They only offer this Yin-Gong Meditation class once a month, on the first Saturday. It is very important to reserve a spot, too, because if they don’t have enough reservations they cancel the class.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Wraps Dinner!

I felt a Geisha girl costume would be perfect for this year's Halloween contest in the office. I came to work dressed in the full kimono get-up. I even got in the car and scolded my son for messing with my hair, but it was just my chopsticks bumping into the head rest. Sorry, kid, my mistake.

Unfortunately, I didn't win the contest at work.

I actually lost to a Dead Prom Queen, Dog the Bounty Hunter and a Birthday Cake.

But you know what, I'm okay with that. You know why? Because that afternoon, I saw a tweet from P.F. Chang's

@PFChangs "Dressed up? Send us your Halloween pics. We're picking our favorite in a few hours & giving the winner a gift card."

Of course I replied:

@jainz57 "@PFChangs twitpic.com/78v5u0 I already have the chopsticks!!"

A few hours later...

@PFChangs "We couldn't pick just 1 photo, so we have 3 gift card winners. They are: http://img.ly/9YTG http://pic.twitter.com/S9c8INdG http://twitpic.com/78v5u0"

Winner!! I should be getting a gift card in the mail soon. Pretty cool.

Although, I didn't win the office contest, I still got some PF Chang's from dressing up today. We also have our company-wide costume contest that will be judged by the end of the week, so there's still another chance for more goodies!

Hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween!

Well that was a FAIL.

I wanted to write for 30 days straight and I miss day 2. Nice one. Lucky for me it takes only 21 straight days to form a habit. So, I can start now and still form this writing habit before my next vacation! We'll just forget that the whole "31 days" blog ever happened. It'll be our little secret.

"If you’re going to be a writer, the first essential is just to write. Do not wait for an idea. Start writing something and the ideas will come. You have to turn the faucet on before the water starts to flow."
Louis L’Amour

Well said, Louis. Well said.

I'll turn on the faucet and you'll all be drowning in a torrent of prose unleashed up in here! Starting...tomorrow.
